Volunteer Program
Overview
Engage with the public and the museum’s cultural and natural history collection. Volunteer to become a Curiosity Catalyst Volunteer, Curatorial Volunteer, Visitor Experience Volunteer, and more! Connect with museum division curators in Anthropology, Earth Sciences, Education, History, and Integrated Sciences. Volunteers support our public and school programming, collection care, administration, and more.
Volunteer Opportunities Include:
Anthropology volunteers and interns play a critical component in the inventorying of the objects housed in the archaeological repository, including: photographing, weighing, and re-numbering objects, as well as re-evaluating object descriptions, writing condition reports, and updating the museum’s physical and digital databases.
Earth Sciences volunteers and interns will have the opportunity to assist in the digitization efforts, inventory of the objects held in the earth sciences collection, and the opportunity to engage with the public in our Fossil Preparation Lab.
History volunteers and interns will participate in digitization and inventory projects of artifact and archival collections. Such projects include photographing the history collections, scanning archival materials, working with the museum’s collection database, participating in collection inventories, and assisting with exhibit installation and reinstallation.
Integrated Sciences volunteers and interns will assist in re-housing, inventory, preservation, and conservation projects for the museum’s natural history collections, which include entomology, herpetology, ornithology, mammalogy, and botany. In addition, volunteers and interns will aid in data entry on the museum’s collection database.
Education volunteers and interns support public and school programming by presenting public demonstrations and activities during public and school visits and public programs. Behind-the-scenes projects include inventorying and organizing the education collection and prepping education materials.
