Prehistoric California at the County Museum
“Prehistoric California” is the theme of the San Bernardino County Museum Family Fun Day on Saturday, June 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
How did the first people who lived in California survive? Families are invited to discover what life was like in prehistoric California, to try out some activities that first children would have experienced, and to “write” their stories. A $1 materials fee is requested in addition to museum general admission.
“Archaeologists make best guesses about prehistoric everyday life based on artifacts they discover,” said Nancy Kirkwood, museum educator. “During ‘Prehistoric California’ families will have a chance to try out some of these everyday activities. Of course, prehistory is defined as being before written history, so everyone will have a chance to ‘write’ about their experience using authentic glyphs and other symbolic methods of communication.”
Family Fun Days are designed for parents and grandparents with children aged 3 to 12. Activities are led by the museum education division and volunteers from the Museum Youth Club.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. General admission is $6 (adult), $5 (student or senior), and $4 (child aged 5 to 12). Children under five and Museum Association members are admitted free. Parking is free. The museum’s Garden Café will offer beverages and snacks between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and the Exploration Station live animal gallery will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org or call (909) 307-2669 / TDD/TTY: (909) 792-1462.
