Award-winning images come to County Museum

An exhibit of photographs organized by the Redlands Camera Club will open at the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands on Wednesday, January 12. The public is invited to meet the photographers at a reception at the museum on Sunday, January 16, from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. The exhibit, “Award-winning Images from the Redlands Camera Club,” runs through February 19 and is free with museum general admission.

The Redlands Camera Club was founded in 1896 as a nonprofit photographic organization. For more than a century, it has encouraged the photographic enthusiast in the enjoyment and improvement of their photography. The club encourages an interest in photography, provides an opportunity for the exchange of ideas, provides an enjoyable forum for the development of artistic and technical photographic skills and promotes a healthy spirit through educational programs, exhibition, and competition.

The club provides its members meetings twice-monthly, photographic field trips, workshops and seminars, exhibit opportunities and periodic competitions among member’s images. The images exhibited at the county museum were selected by the camera club and include some of the best entries in their 2004 annual competition.

“The club is open to members of all skill levels, from novices and enthusiastic amateurs to professional photographers,” explained Brian Loflin, the club’s vice-president. “In fact, we have a mentoring program and our experienced photographers offer one-on-one assistance to beginners. We meet twice monthly, and now have close to 140 members who come from as far away as Pasadena, Indio, Big Bear, and Hemet to our meetings, workshops, and field trips.”

The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays and holiday Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6 (adult), $5 (senior or student) and $4 (child aged 5-12). Children under 5 and Museum Association members are admitted free. Parking is free, and the facility is handicapped-accessible. Lunch, snacks, and beverages are available at the museum’s Garden Café from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org or call (909) 307-2669 / TDD/TTY: (909) 792-1462.
