Lights, Sirens, Safety! at the County Museum
On Saturday, May 8 , the parking lot at the San Bernardino County
Museum will be filled with fire engines, ambulances, police cars,
even dogcatchers. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the museum invites visitors
to meet the people who work to make things safe for all of us.
The event is offered at no charge.
"Lights, Sirens, Safety" is a special event that offers
people a chance to see equipment and meet professional firefighters,
police officers, paramedics, animal control officers, search and
rescue volunteers, and others who help keep our communities great
places to live and play. Participating agencies include the San
Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, the San Bernardino County
Sheriff's Department Cave Rescue and Search Dog Teams, the San
Bernardino County Fire Department, the Redlands Fire Department,
the Redlands Police Department and the Citizen Volunteer Patrol,
Redlands Animal Control, American Medical Response, the California
Highway Patrol, the U.S. Forest Service, the California Department
of Fish and Game, the San Bernardino County Probation Department,
the American Red Cross, the San Bernardino City Unified School
District Police, and Metrolink. Drinking water for the event has
been donated by Sparkletts and Burtec Waste Industries contributed
trash collection boxes. The presence of specific agencies is subject
to availability in case of emergency.
"Museum security is concerned with the well-being of our
visitors," explained Mark Crosby, museum security chief.
"We've organized "Lights, Sirens, Safety" in cooperation
with many other safety agencies to let people know about these
vital services in an informal and enjoyable atmosphere. From kids
to seniors, it's important to understand how safety agencies can
work with us, and what we can do ourselves to help keep our communities
safe."
There is no fee to participate in "Lights, Sirens, and Safety."
Regular fees will be charged for admission to the museum and its
special exhibits, including "Hopi Katsinas," "Outdoor
Adventures," and "Unearthed: fossils in the museum collections."
